Top Whistler renovators adopt RenoMark: national standard for professional contractors

By Frank O'Brien

Whistler and area homeowners considering renovations this year will soon be seeing the RenoMark logo, a new branding for top renovation members of the Canadian Home Builders' Association, Sea-to-Sky.

The Sea-to-Sky members voted last November to adopt RenoMark, a national initiative meant to assure homeowners that they are dealing with qualified, competent contractors.

"RenoMark identifies the renovator as a professional, representing a level of excellence that the consumer can rely on when making the sometimes difficult decision on who to hire" said Bob Deeks, president of RDC Fine Homes Inc., an award-winning Whistler renovator and custom-home builder.

RenoMark was first established in Toronto in 2001, and has since been embraced by professional renovators in Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and, now, Whistler.

There are at least 10 good reasons why homeowners should hire only those contractors who are RenoMark members, Deeks said. Among them:

■ RenoMark members are committed to their industry and to their businesses and are willing to pay annual dues to keep informed and to help educate consumers as well.

■ RenoMark members have legitimate business licences. They do not support the underground economy of renovators who avoid paying taxes and operate "fly-by-night" and "cash-only" businesses.

■ RenoMark members are informed These professionals are the first to
